Лимонада со краставица и ѓумбир / Sassy water

scroll down for the recipe in english

the idea for this lemonade came from a health/fitness/nutrition site, where it says that this drink helps maintaining flat belly. i don't know about the flat belly, but i know that this lemonade is very refreshing, especially in a hot day like today.

it's very easy to make: in 2 l water add 1 medium cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced, 1 lemon, thinly sliced, 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger and around 10 spearmint leaves.
leave in the fridge for a few hours or overnight and in the morning you'll have a cold and really refreshing drink.

Конечно денес ќе го пробам...единствено што немам свеж ѓумбир,него ќе ги изоставам...Одлична идеја.По некоја логика многу интересни вкусови на лимонада може да се добијат со додавање на овошја или зеленчуци во неа :)

how long can you keep using the same lemon, cucumber, and mint? how do you know when it has "turned"?

karen, i don't know, i haven't tried using the same lemon, cucumber and mint.

How many times in one day can you drink this? I assume it loosens the bowels?

bojana said...

you can drink 2 litres of the lemonade a day. we made it a few times this summer and drank a lot because it's very refreshing.
i didn't notice loosening of the bowels, but i noticed reduced bloating. i don't know if i'm explaining this very well.

Can you reuse any of the ingredients after you've finished drinking the first 2L of water? Or can you only use the mint leaves, cucumber and lemon once?

bojana said...

i'm not sure about reusing the ingredients. i haven't tried it. i suppose they can be reused once.
please let us know if you try it.

I think it would be safe to only use the ingredients once a lot of bacteria is on the mint leaves. The lemon and ginger may retard the growth, but why take chances?

I am confused, is there ginger in this too?

This recipe comes from Prevention Magazine's Flat Belly Diet. Which is terrific btw. The recipe, as posted, left out fresh grated ginger. It takes a bit of getting used to but it is VERY refreshing. Oh & it doesn't turn b/c you're supposed to drink this amount everyday. You make a new one each night for the next day.

do you heat the water or just use cold?

bojana said...

just use cold water and keep the lemonade in the fridge.

How many ounces or cup of water per liter?

ciewsiyt avesplLike a tea bag, I think you could use the same ingredients twice, if you drank this refreshing brew fairly quickly. I would not wait a week and try to reuse. For the record, Washed mint leaves have no more bacteria on them than any other herb. As a matter of fact, mint aides in digestion, and helps rid the mouth of unwanted bacteria.

I see the ginger listed in the recipe. I used a recipe similar to this while pregnant to reduce water retention with my midwife's blessing. I had lost the recipe. Thanks for having it here (found it through my sisters on pinterest)
